Making Defensive Driving a Global Standard
Road accidents are caused, they do not happen by chance. In India, the drivers cause 75% of the total road accidents. Sad, but true, our country is credited with the highest road deaths in the world. An average of 70,000 deaths every year!

The main culprit is the attitude towards the act of driving. Knowledge of driving is not restricted to one's mere ability to drive. The academic qualifications of a person or his ability to drive for years without being involved in a single accident are no grounds to judge the driving competency of a person.

Driving ability of most average drivers is based on wrong notions and misconceptions. In practice, hardly one out of ten persons stand the test of a good driver: the rest could be inching towards a disaster unknowingly.

Experience makes a person perfect. This fact may not necessarily hold true in driving. Mere experience of driving under identical conditions, such as going home from office or to the club and then back home on a familiar route and traffic conditions, hardly help overall capacities as a driver, claim experts. It's like saying that years of practice at roadside cricket can give you skills of a test cricketer.

Driving in the true sense, is an endless learning process. As motoring is an integral part of our community. WIAA recognises safety as a major issue. We need to put safer drivers on the roads.

Now Defensive Driving Course is a mandatory course for drivers of hazardous vehicles. The Govt. of Maharashtra under rule 9 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, has authorised WIAA for imparting 3 days training to licensed drivers who drive vehicles carrying goods of hazardous or dangerous nature to human life.

WIAA will conduct defensive/safe driving courses at our office at Mumbai. Audio-visual facilities are included in the program.
