Vehicullar Emissions : The power that propels automobiles comes from combustion. In the combustion chamber, fuel (hydrocarbon) mixes with air. Ideally, oxygen in the air converts all the hydrogen in the fuel into water and all the carbon dioxide. However, in reality, combustion produces pollutants like unburned hydrocarbons (HC), oxides of nitrogen (Nox), carbon monoxide (CO), water and particulate of matter. Besides this, lead and sulphur in the fuel form part of the emission. Smoke is the only visible component of vehicular emissions while gases like CO and Nox are invisible. |
Need For Proper Maintenance : It must be understood that while an engine is designed and manufactured to conform to certain emmission norms, it will continue to do so in operation only if it is maintained properly. Vehicle users and repairers action to be taken. It is important that engine is properly maintained and tuned by a qualified technician, which will ensure less harmful emissin and better fuel mileage. |
