Today Indian roads take a toll of more than 75,000 people every year with 60 percent of the victims being children and pedistrains. According to a study by a leading traffic institution, road accidents in India kill one person every six minutes.

The misery that road accidents cause cannot be calculated. Loss of a family member, personal injury, property damages and trauma caused by accidents cannot be quantified and calculated. They are simply enormous.

Most people use roads daily for-travelling from one place to another. Various modes of transportation such as bus, car, taxi, autos, scooters, motorcycle, cycle and at times even animal driven vehicles or may be even a horse rider can be seen on our roads.

The Indian roads are a heterogeneous mix of diverse modes of transportation. The enormous volume of all types of vehicles in limited road space makes accidents an alarming frequent feature.

Road Traffic Signs
- Obey all Road Traffic Signs
- Do not expect others to read your mind
- Before moving to the road look, think & go

There are three types of Road Traffic Signs mentioned below with symbols:
a)  MANDATORY SIGNS
All Mandatory Signs are in red circle with white background, indicated in a circular form. The violation of these signs is a legal offence.
b)  CAUTIONARY SIGNS
All Cautionary Signs are in red triangle with white background, indicated in a triangular form. These signs meant for the safety of road users.
c)  INFORMATORY SIGNS
All Informatory Signs are in blue square, indicated in a square form. These signs gives information on the Highways.

Principal Of Using Roads
In Mumbai, about 455 vehicles are plying per kilometer. This information indicates the rate of congestion of Mumbai roads. Our roads are being used by bus, car, taxi, autos, scooters, motorcycle, cycle and at times even animal driven vehicles or may be even a horse rider stc. It means, our road are not safe for the pedestrian if they are not alert and discipline.

While crossing the busy road you must pay more attention and concerntration on the traffic signals and Police Hand signal, they are meant for your safely.

At cross-road look right, then left and then right again. Do not proceed until you are sure that it is safe to do so.
ZEBRA CROSSING

Zebra or Pedestrian crossing shows number of parallel or angular white lines on the road near the traffic signal, road crossing or road junction. Pedestrian always have a habit of crossing anywhere on the road. You should cross the road only on the zebra crossing for your safety.
SIGNAL JUNCTION
Do not cross until you have the "Cross Now" or "Green signal". Do not cross until Traffic Police gives you the hand signal. Cross the road when all vehicles are stopped. While crossing you must watch for approaching vehicle. Never run on road while crossing.
NON SIGNAL JUNCTION
While crossing two roads together, you should stop on the divider, watch again, then cross next road. At cross-road look right, then left and then right again. Do not proceed until you are sure that it is safe to do so.
