| ROAD SAFETY WEEK - 2nd January to 8th January 2006 |
Our Association actively participated in the 17th Road Safety Week, held from 2nd January to 8th January in co-ordination with the Mumbai Traffic Police & RTO with a series of activities like Free PUC check up throughout the week at Marine Drive, Eye Test for Drivers, Electrical Check ups, Brake Fluid Test, Drawing cum Slogan Competition for school children etc. |

(a) The Road Safety Week was inaugurated by Shri Satish Chand Mathur, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic on 2nd January at Marine Drive, in the presence of Shri S. D. Shinde, IAS Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra State and Mr. Mohan Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Around 979 vehicles were checked during the week for PUC, Electrical Check Up, and Brake Fluid Test. A book on Road Safety was released at the hands of Shri Satish Chand Mathur on the occasion. Free Eye Check-Up camps were organized at various venues where 785 people were checked by eminent Dr. Kulin Kothari and his team from Bombay City Eye Institute and Research Centre. Eye Check up was also donefor the Public Transport, Police & Traffic Departments, and drivers from Bus, State Transport and Taxis. |

(b) A Blood Donation Drive was organized at Churchgate Station where 154 units of blood were collected and given to Red Cross Society for Road Accident victims. |

(c) The Grand Finale event was the Drawing cum Slogan competition for school children on 8th January at the WIAA Children's Traffic Park, Cooperage for children under and above 12 years of age and handicapped children. About 350 children from 35 schools participated in the competition. They brought out innovative catchy slogans and wonderful reproduction of their thoughts about Road safety through their drawings. |

At this competition, WIAA initiated a Rolling Trophy in memory of Late PP Shri. Niranjan Mehta, for the overall BEST PAINTING CUM SLOGAN in the competition. Shri. Satish Chand Mathur, Joint Commissioner of Police- Traffic was the Chief Guest and gave away the prizes. Other Special Guests present were Shri. Mohan Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police - Traffic and Shri. Vivek Mathai, General Manager - Amul India. |
