Simulation is an imitation of some real device or situation. A simulator is an artificial car model, used in many countries like UK, France, USA etc. It replicates real life situations on the road & is used for training fresh drivers seeking to obtain permanent driving license.

To improve the quality and efficacy of training : The learner gets professional training on the simulator and this builds his self-confidence. It gives an objective analysis of mistakes.

For safety of the learner: When a learner is put directly on the road, he faces 2 challenges - firstly the car controls and secondly traffic control. When he has practiced beforehand on the simulator for the car controls, he is safer, when he starts learning on the road.

For the safety of cars: Today, the average value of a car is about Rs. 5 lakhs and learning on the simulator will definitely help reduce damage to the car.

WIAA has considered the above reasons and imported a simulator from France, which is the first of its kind in the western region of India. The simulator has actual car controls whereby the driver gets the feel of driving a real car. There are rear-view mirrors and three screens, which depict the front & side-views of the road. One can choose from variety of climatic, traffic and road conditions for driving. As WIAA has the authority to issue licenses and ensure that proper training is given, simulator training is an innovative step in this direction.

The Learner's License is obtained after giving a test on the computer. Then simulator training and on-road training is done. After this, the candidate has to give the driving test, conducted by the testing officer, passing which the permanent License is issued by RTO.
