Munnar

Munnar, situated 135 km east of Cochin, is the highest (1524 m) hill station of Kerala. The highest peak in south India, Anaimudi (2695 m) is a short distance from it. Munnar has a cool, bracing climate and exudes an olde-worlde charm.

The atmosphere is fragrant with extensive tea and cardamom plantations. Tea estates are situated mostly on the inner slopes of an elevated basin-like plateau. Estate elevations vary from about 1,220 m to over 1,830 m. Some of the tea plantations, at an elevation of over 2,135 m, are among the highest in the world. Lockhart Gap 20 km provides panoramic view of the valley and plantation down below. The enchanting high range of lakes and streams, the low - flying clouds and the mist - filled valleys cast a spell which lingers long in the memory.
