Kohima

Kohima, capital of Nagaland is a hill station, situated at an altitude of 1,495 metres above sea level. It is an enchanting hill town presenting wide panoramic views. Kohima, 74 km east of Dimapur in the Assam valley, was built by the British in the nineteenth century.

The state Museum treasure trove having a rare collection of articles which depicts the tradition and history of the Naga tribes. Zoological Park is abounding in rich flora and fauna of Nagaland. Of special interest is the world famous Blythe Tragopan available here only. Japfu Peak 15 km is a perfect spot for scaling and trekking. At an altitude of 3043 meters above sea level, the peak affords an excellent view of Kohima town and distance, snow clad, Himalayan peaks. Kohima consists of busy market and shopping precincts, shawls ,cane and bamboo basket, the colourful and exquisite jewellery made of glass beads, ivory, brass and shells are fine examples of workmanship.

Getting There
Kohima lies on the Dimapur-Imphal road, three or four hours by road from the railhead and airprt of Dimapur.
