The Charminar is in Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Standing in the heart of the walled city and surrounded by lively bazaars, is this massive arch built by Mohammed Quli Qutab Shah, in 1591 to commemorate the end of the plague in the city. Its name means Four Towers ( Char-Minar), the Charminar, looming at a height of 56 m, is an impressive square gateway with four minarets.. The arch is illuminated daily in the evening, an unforgettable sight indeed.
